chief tax authority for the locality from which they are elected.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR HANOVER COUNTY CITIZENS REGARDING VEHICLES
On April 13, 2011, the Hanover County Board of Supervisors approved a change in the County Code which eliminated the Hanover County
Decal. Citizens no longer are required to display the Hanover County Vehicle Decal on their windshields.
This change in the County Code did NOT eliminate the vehicle filing requirement. If you purchase a vehicle or are a new
resident, you are required by Hanover County Code to register the vehicle within 60 days of the date of purchase or the move in date to the county.
If you do not register withing the 60 day time period, you will incur a Late Filing Penalty of 5% of the tax or $10, whichever is greater.
Please do not hesitate to call our office at (804) 365-6129 should you have questions.
COMMISSIONER OF REVENUE OFFERS ONLINE REGISTRATION OF MOTOR VEHICLES
Hanover County citizens wishing to register motor vehicles with the Commissioner of
Revenue's office may now do so online. In a continuing effort for improved customer service
we have developed an
online registration form to assist taxpayers in properly registering their motor
vehicles. The new form includes questions regarding vehicles sold or disposed of by the
taxpayer that will allow us to ensure accurate personal property billing in the fall.
Once you have completed the registration form, the information will be transmitted to
office via email. The vehicle registration information and any information related to
vehicle disposals will be entered into the tax administration software system by our
staff.
We are committed in our efforts to continue offering improvements and opportunities for you
to interact with our office at your convenience. Please do not hesitate to call our office
should you have questions or suggestions.
