Employee Assistance Program (EAP)
Optima Health EAP program offers FREE counseling services for all employees, dependents, and other household members, regardless of participation in County health plans.
EAP can help you manage many problems of everyday life such as stress, work-related concerns, family relations, child/adolescent issues and balancing work & family to mention a few. EAP also offers services under their legal/financial/identify theft assistance benefits.

BE WELL offers these wellness programs:
- Onsite exercise programs & seminars, fitness center discounts
- Weight management programs to include Weight Watchers at Work
- Stress management programs that include onsite chair massages
- Online interventions and support for Southern Health members
- Smoking/tobacco cessation program including free patches, gum, or lozenges to help you quit.
- For Southern Health members, a chance to win $100 (taxes applied) by simply filling out an online health risk appraisal.

Savings & Retirement
Retirement - Virginia Retirement System (VRS) based on average
final compensation, years of service, and age at retirement. Paid
for 100% by Hanover County.
Deferred Compensation program - Section 457 plan which allows
employees to set aside pre-tax dollars for retirement.
Premium
Conversion - Pre-tax savings on health & dental deductions.
Flexible Spending Accounts - Two pre-tax savings plans for
medical expenses not covered by the health plan and dependent care
expenses.
Income Protection & Security
Life Insurance - Salary rounded to the next highest thousand
and then doubled. Paid for 100% by Hanover County.
Supplemental Life Insurance - Optional supplemental coverage
for yourself and/or your dependents.
Accidental Death & Dismemberment - Double indemnity for
accidental death and plan for dismemberment. Paid for 100% by Hanover
County.
Sick Leave - Accrual per pay period based on workweek. Employees
earn 15 days per year.
Family Sick Leave - Employees can use up to 6 days of sick
leave per calendar year to care for a close family member.
Extended Sick Leave - An employee may borrow paid leave
if all leave has been exhausted and an undue financial hardship
would result.
Short-term Disability - Optional insurance at group rates
to provide up to 60% of salary if unable to work due to illness
or injury. Choice of two elimination periods.
Long-term Disability - Income protection which provides
60% of salary if unable to work after six months. Paid for 100%
by Hanover County.
Other Services
Educational Assistance - Tuition reimbursement program for approved job-related
courses.
Direct Deposit - Paychecks deposited directly into up to
three accounts.
Credit Union - Member benefits and discounts through Virginia
Credit Union.
