Zoning Enforcement

The Zoning Enforcement section of the Planning Department is located at 7516 County Complex Road on the first floor of the Administration Building. They can be reached Monday through Friday from 8:30am-5:00pm at (804) 365-6171 and on Saturdays from 8:30 am-5:00 pm at (804) 365-6140 or via email at code_enforcement@co.hanover.va.us.

Zoning staff are responsible for providing staff support to the Board of Zoning Appeals, including researching and presenting variance applications. They are also accountable for researching and preparing zoning compliance letters and assisting citizens with questions regarding zoning applications, the zoning ordinance, setback requirements, sign applications, home occupations, and zoning violations.

Enforcement of the Hanover County Zoning Ordinance is the responsibility of Code Compliance Officers. They work with citizens and businesses to keep Hanover a safe and beautiful place for people to live and work. Hanover County has Code Compliance officers on duty six days a week from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. During the week officers focus on investigating citizen complaints as well as assisting those who visit or call the office. Weekend duties include, but are not limited to, patrolling the county for illegally placed signs and following up on after hour’s complaints.
